Why fibre has the potential to transform your health
Share
Fibre changes your microbiome and which bacteria can colonise your gut.
It reduces inflammation, improves your immune system and has many other, well documented, benefits.
And, crucially, all these benefits lead to feeling better after food. Considering you're probably eating at least three times a day, the way that food makes you feel has really got to be paramount in your decision making!
There’s a growing awareness now around how foods make us feel and we’re getting more and more discerning about what we eat, rightly so. Knowing that the average UK adult is only getting 60% of their recommended daily fibre, increasing the amount of fibre you eat is a great place to start.
Each of us should be getting 30g of fibre per day.
Here’s an example of how you can get to 30g of fibre, while adding as many feel-good things as you want 😀
Breakfast -> Banana porridge
Cup of cooked oats - 4g
Banana - 4g
Lunch -> Hummus on toast
2 x wholemeal slices of bread - 6g
2 tbsp hummus - 2 g
Dinner ->Wholemeal pasta (with sauce of your choice!)
1 ½ cups of cooked wholemeal pasta - 9g
Snack -> Can of Earthnutz
Peanut Protein Crisps - 5 g
So there you have it, a simple and effective way to get to 30g of fibre per day and, trust me, it doesn’t have to taste like dry shredded wheat. It can be full of fibre and taste damn good!
